Nato a Bordighera 24 anni fa, Alessandro Bonora contende a Valerio Zuppiroli la palma del più forte giocatore indigeno di sempre. Lasciato a 18 mesi il Mar Ligure per il ben più
tempestoso Capo di Buona Speranza Alex è cresciuto a Cape Town imparando ed affinando gradualmente la sua tecnica prima a Westerford High School poi alla Rhodes University ed infine all’Alma Marist Cricket Club a fianco dell’opening batsman dei
Proteas, Herschelle Gibbs. Giunto in Italia via internet nella primavera del 2000 Alex è subito divenuto nelle fila della Lazio una delle star della EIS Cup risultando per due anni consecutivi il più prolifico battitore italiano. Una tecnica da manuale coniugata con una profonda cultura del gioco ne fanno un
investimento a lungo termine che permette al cricket italiano di guardare con fiducia al futuro.

Cape Town learning and subsequently
developing is cricket first at Westerford Hig School
then at Rhodes University and lastly at Alma

Il 2 maggio 1999 un giocatore
fino ad allora sconosciuto e dal nome da mille ed una
notte faceva il suo impatto sul proscenio del cricket ita-liano.
Prendendo 7/27 al lancio contro il Maremma, compreso un
hat trick nel primo over, Alaud Din, pakistano di
Lahore trapiantato alle falde dell’Etna, diventava
l’alfiere del neonato cricket siciliano. Indiscutibilmente il più forte
opening bowler in Italia “Eddy”, come lo chiamano
i suoi compagni di squadra è gradualmente cresciuto anche in battuta trovando nel
2001 la sua dimensione nel ruolo fin’ora poco
valorizzato in Italia di battitore d’attacco.
La grande ultima stagione della Murri si deve
a questo suo contributo inatteso quasi quanto
alla sua mortale efficacia al lancio.
